... ... ... Kill it with fire. I could kick one. Repeatedly. To death. Maybe you could... Then again, does it count if you don't have a heart?

He never said anything about having a heart, he just said look it in the eyes, and say it, and mean it, and I have. Challenge destroyed, by the ever cruel Webster. Muhahahahahah!

I could kick it if it attacked me, but not in a way that would hurt it, and I'd feel bad about it.
Although you'd probably only have to push it away. Scrawny things.
@web: you wouldn't kill it. You wouldn't even kick it. I bet you secretly have a wall plastered with pictures of cute animals, with little hearts drawn all around them.

I rarely post here... But I know an animal that is not often mentioned and even less credited That's the most monstrous creature out there. Even more than the polar bears that roam in the streets here. (Insert long hair and a few more years.) That animal is called Adeth and he kills you when he spots you. And not only that, but it's contagious.

Btw, you only get a flare gun? Not some kind of high barrel rifle? Oh, I FORGOT! UR A KID. A rifle could injure the animal if the bullet went were it shouldn't, and emits a heck of a lot of noise. Which could do anything from scare it to piss it off. A Flare gun would make a boomish noise, which might deafen them temp. and the flash of light and fire would either blind them or scare the crap outta them. And the greatest reason is that a flare is more easy to locate the origin of than a gunshot, so you could get help real bloody quick if that thing tries to gnaw on ya. As for animals... Peacocks are seriously nature's exposition in tie-dye art, and downright beautiful. But the Raccoon also rarely gets its due for awesomeness, it's usually just blacklisted as the pesky thief. But those little guys are damn smart beasts and versatile as all heck. But coolest thing of all is that their strongest sense is their sense of touch. They get more information out of every object they fiddle with than any other animal on the planet. Their sense of touch is imaginable to the human perceptions.

@ Adeth: That picture is ancient.... You should get a new one. @ Frank: Well, sure, but whenever you realise that the bear ain't going to run away, you'll suddenly end up without any defence what so ever. Which is why a rifle would be better, since you could first try to scare it away, and if the bear decided to eat you no matter, you could use the rifle to save your life.
And lastly, help on Svalbard? I reckon the polar bear would just eat you before anyone even noticed you were out taking a piss.

Anyway; while I don't agree with shooting animals for no reason, a gun is a good defense with a bear. Flare gun is easily useful as well as a gun, but the sound of a gunshot will usually make a bear flee, and it also means that you're less likely to be killed (bears can survive a good few gunshots to the torso sometimes). Also, even more humane weapons like tranquiliser guns won't help; if you tranq a bear, it'll attack, and the tranquiliser won't act fast enough to save you. Just to say, I'm pretty sure in the US when rehabilitating bears its common practice to have a live gun in case they turn on you when released, and this from the people who've saved it. No problem here in the UK, though; couple hundred years ago they killed off all the dangerous animals. Now the largest predator is a fox, and they most scavenge- when they do hunt, its for pet bunnies and earthworms.

Anyway; while I don't agree with shooting animals for no reason... ... ... ... *Slowly looks out of the scope of his rifle, which is aimed at a bunch of squirrels in his back yard.* ... ... Is being insufferably annoying a good reason? Cause I can probably take out a few of these guys... Smart people these UK people! That's it. To prevent the widespread bear maulings, we shall round up all the bears, line them up against a wall, and execute them! Starting with that insufferably annoying Smoky. If I want to set a tree on fire, why shouldn't I? Those birds didn't need that nest anyway, they should just fly all the time, the lazy creatures!

Removed for the sake of roleplaying and fiction. Nonetheless, it's rude to curse at people.
