FC did you hear about how Orson Scott Card made a list of all the similarities of Enders Game and Harry Pottter. They are really similar.

FC did you hear about how Orson Scott Card made a list of all the similarities of Enders Game and Harry Pottter. They are really similar. I do not know of this Ender's Game that you speak of, nor do I frankly care, honestly. So it's similar to Harry Potter, or Potter is similar to Enders Game. Guess what; JK Rowling had to get her INSPIRATION from SOMEWHERE! You can come up with similarities between the Bible and the Odyssey and Iliad; do those make them plagiarism, or a terrible piece of literature? Does Homer get flack for it? No. But Rowling does. Maybe I miss interpreted your meaning, but I can't help but feel you are trying to bash Harry Potter. Why bother? So I like Harry Potter. So others like it. They are entitled to their opinions. For some reason, Harry Potter is the only book in which people's opinions -if they support the books- make them look like idiots and children. I can't see a reason for this, but I see it all the time on forums and such. And it really irks me how J.K. Rowling gets so unfairly bashed. She accomplished something that in this day and age is difficult. She got more and more children to READ. She got them into reading. Why can't anyone seem to realize this, and accept Harry Potter as a simple literary piece, and not witchcraft, heresy, plagiarism, or an conspiracy mind-washing machine? Why does it seem people single out Harry Potter? Not to say you did, Galvin, but your statement just got me thinking on that.

The reason that he came up with the list was because she was in a court case with this guy who was publishing a Harry Potter encyclopedia. She was sueing him and said that it was a product fully of her own mind. Orson Scott Card came immediately after hearing those words.
It kind of sucks because shes a good author

Wow. I honestly never knew about that particular controversy. *shrug*
For the fantasy fan, I always suggest Robin Hobb's "Assassin" trilogy (as well as the other two trilogies in the series) and Steven Brust's "Jhereg" books. Both are narrated by loveable, yet dark characters. I especially love the sarcastic tone of Brust's Vlad Taltos.

Any book by Dean Koontz is almost guaranteed to be good, I particularly recommend 'The Watchers'.

Why does it seem people single out Harry Potter? Not to say you did, Galvin, but your statement just got me thinking on that. Okay, Let me set things straight here about this conterversy so that everyone knows what it is: For those of you who do not know, Ender's Game is about a gifted child named ender who is sent to a military academy at a young age because people think he is the key to humanity's continued survival against the alien onslaught known as the buggers. ender has very little friends, and his family hates him. but, Ender turns out to be one of the greatest military minds ever. Ender's Game was written 10 years before harry potter. it's really a very good book, and if you can, buy it and read it. So, lets get to the contreversy. There is a man in the united states who has very little moneywise, but loves harry potter. I would tell you his name, but I don't know it. so, this man got on the internet and created a lextionary about harry potter and all of its characters, symbols, its world, everything. and it was very, very good. When J.K Rowling heard of it, she liked it and provided support for the site, because she thought it was a good idea to do. An agent also thought it was a good idea. he came up to the man and asked if they could publish the book. He would also get some of the funds from said book.He agreed, and a Harry potter Lexionary was published. J.K Rowling was furious, sued the man, and even flew over to the united states to see him in court. Even though it was really a harmless little book and she approved of it when the man wasn't getting any money. So, the court case raged on. J.K Rowling was winning the court case against the little man. Then, the writer of Ender's Game, Orson Scott card, came to the court case in defense of the man. He proceded then to compare the erie similaritys between the two books (Ender=Harry potter, both had abusive families, both were selected because they were gifted, etc.) and if you have read Enders game, you will understand what Im talking about, and if you don't id say about 80% of harry potter is ripped of of Enders Game and the books that came ater it. I don't kniw how the court case went, but t really doesn't matter. This really just goes to show that even if J.K Rowling had no interest in money when she first created Harry potter, she obviously does now. She doesn't want anyone to get any money from Harry Potter but herself. and, with Harry potter being so similar to Enders Game, Harry potter loses alot of it's originality, and this is really a crippling blow to Rowling. i really won't be able to look at her the same way again. it puts Abraham lincons qoute into perspetive: Any man can stand adversity. If you really want to test a mans character, give him power. So, that is what this whole contrevesty is about. on a better note, I forgot to put my favorite book ever on my list: Flags of our Fathers. It's really a great book, and If you really want to see the horrors of war and the bravery of a few young men, read Flags of our Fathers.

Catch 22. A classic, got it's own trope, etc etc.
And I just gotta say: I enjoyed the Return of the King, and the Two Towers by Tolkien, but I'm trying to read The Fellowship of the Ring right now, and it's painful to try and read.
And I didn't know all that about Rowling and Card. I gots to read the internets news more often.
