Hehe. I've always been very good with taking my hits. Case in point was the way that Janus turned out in Bioshock, with his death. When something unforeseen happened that would normally do extreme damage, extreme damage it did. Got one of my coolest death scenes I've ever written out of it too.
Going back a bit further, Flame Dancer in Dragon's Dark Crusade/Purification/Last Chapter (Can never remember that one's name...) got his ass kicked several times. I think I made him injured/near death/ three, four times in that RP. Once when he got run through by what was basically a spear fired out of a crossbow, once when he got hit in the back of the skull by an arrow (Or multiple) fired from a group of archers standing atop a wall that he buzzed by, once when he was fighting Argente's massive black dragon and got his entire side ripped open, and once when he got one hell of a bitch-slap by Shadowhand. I still remember the details, yay. ;D
Anyway, back on track, back on track... Any person that can't take a hit or die, be they Hero or Villain, can be a major annoyance. As a side gripe, though, a Hero that can instinctively find out every trap/trick/whatever that a Villain lays in their way can be annoying as well. "Somehow I know that when we enter this ruin, there's going to be a giant boulder! Better send a little scrib in there first to trigger the trap before us/find some really odd dodge that the Villain likely should have seen coming!" kind of thing.

*wide puppy dog eyes* But... what are you saying? Surely that's what all my puny little thief types are for?

It's not so much a plot of the rp as it is a side plot of himself. If anyone were to uncover his motives and plans, and managed to put a stop to him, it would indeed be cut short. But Jackorn isn't about to flaunt his goals about, now is he? I came up with it and not Halfy. She just liked the idea. If anyone has a chance of completely screwing that side plot over though, it's you with your ancient. If they got into a real fight, she'd eff up Jackorn pretty good.

SHe's not that kind of character. I didn't want to play a good guy. Defeats the purpose of playing a vampire. neither did I want to play a 1 dimensional bad guy. Instead, I made some crazy heartless vamp ancient who likes to screw with people's minds, will kill people without thought if necessary, but doesn't actually like to get involved.
The only character you can make in that RP is a solo char like her, because everyone else is too love-sick. Anyway: sniping at TLJ is over.

*wide puppy dog eyes* But... what are you saying? Surely that's what all my puny little thief types are for? But with thieves and their ilk it makes sense for such a thing to occur, to at least a small degree. Now finding ALL the traps is not cool, but at least some, considering they are excellent in avoiding traps and obstacles to their goals. And Story, you are quite right on the elitism of Loranna's rp. I had fun with it, but I was deathly afraid of doing a post and then getting hell by the entire group for some little detail done wrong, or something. Granted, I feel that way with SoS as well, but in a field of rping I have never touched before; army rping. So it's understandable. But I know how to rp a single man like Sam, and I had that fear. Now that's elitism.

Hey, screw the elitism with Loranna's work. Reading through some of their posts were what got me to try my hand at RPing in the first place, albiet on a lesser scale, in a lesser thread, but still. And what I wrote was incredible crap by then. But still, one of my first characters I've ever had got ihs ass kicked all the time. I'm proud of that.

Characters that get their asses kicked are definately more fun than ones that don't.
Although I'm a fan of chars that run away with their tails between their legs. Big time.

And I'm a fan of chasing those characters down and putting a blade where their spine should be. Perhaps the steel will give them more backbone than they obviously had before. ;D
And punching bag characters ARE fun. Provided you have the right people around that utilize said punching bag. lol

You'd LOVE my rp Rewriting History. All the good guys hate each other and fight non-stop. I reckon they'll all have killed each by the time they reach Akulakhan, who will smash their annoying asses into smithereens.
Good RP. End of the world, a team of would-be-heroes, except they don't actually pull together- they work together to ruin each other's lives and bit by bit all hope is lost.
Awesome. More RPs should be so dyfunctional.

More RPs should be so dyfunctional. I'm tempted to make that happen in Era soon if we don't start hauling ass. Just plop gates in front of every city and ravage Cyrodiil till it's nothing but smolders. Of course... it ain't my rp.... Hmmm... No... can't... shouldn't even be doing this right now. Shame. I was considering trying to joining Rewriting. But I shouldn't. Too much already on my plate. Oh, and Webster.... Islin is likely to end up in that sorta position, fleeing like a chicken in desperation and getting smacked about a bit. It's rather typical for him.

Bah, the last time I tried to make some discord within a party, Verlox pulled out. Kinda detrimental to doing it in the future.

Ironically, that's what happened when I tried to stir things up between Verlox and Flame Dancer in Dragons. Guess he has a habit of doing that, I dunno.
Regardless, the only thing to do is keep trying! Messing up the norm is a GOOD thing! ^_^

We didn't try to do it in Rewriting history. It was just supposed to be an adventure RP. But it turned out, none of our characters could stand the sight of one another. And thus, a God among RPs was born. It would have been nothing were it not for the players there, which is funny, because a lot of the 'big' characters are RPers that either don't have a good reputation or have no reputation at all, and some of them (for reasons unknown to me) think they're bad rpers. I hate the elitist RPing that is occuring, and I know its probably my fault. I complain about things I think are wrong, and then I advise people on how to better their work. Sometimes I'm harsh (with folks who start ruining RPs) and sometimes I'm gentle, but just generally I'd rather RP with 'new' folks, or those who don't get to play with 'big' rpers like we see around here than I would with oldies. That's because they bring something new to an RP, and yeah, every now and then they uber, or make a rubbish post, but then so do we all, and at least they're willing to admit it. I fear I've created an RPing monster by making that stupid 'how to' thread. I only did it to make those too stubborn to listen actually listen. I didnt mean to make everyone so picky about who to let in and who not to.

I let in anyone who makes a sensible character. If I can find a way in my imagination to find reason for their character to even exist (kinda easy for me, actually) I'll accept them.
Most of my complaints with the newer folks are in their etiquette, not how they rp. Like when they get too impatient and start spam posting. Then I get pissy. I kinda don't like rping with newer folks much though, because they all seem to look up to me as some kind of God, which inflates my ego and I hate having a large ego, really I do. I understand HK-47 now, when he'd once told me "Don't ask me how to do everything, do something yourself dammit!"
I hate having people look up to me that way, which might be why I seem to often avoid the newer rping crowd.

I need to work on Dar'shandi's vulnerabilities. He is way too influenced by every acrobat-oriented action movie out there, as well as based on the main character of Prince of Persia series. However, I work on making him believable, even with his inhuman acrobatics. That is part of the reason he is not human, but khajiiti instead. I think it is not unreasonable to give him several feline survival abilities, such as the ability to fall great distances without injury, jump over twice his own body height, and twist in ways more freely than the average contortionist (If he's flexible enough to lick his own rear comfortably, not that HE woudl, crazy dodging shouldn't be out of the picture). I also gave him the loose skin of felines. If you grab any part of him, he can still rotate about 270 degrees in his own skin to turn around and fight back, or break a pin. I think I've put more thought into the nature of feline characteristics than the devs themselves.
Also, as far as romance is concerned, I don't know the definition of "sappy". Anyway, my characters are always the lover-type. I have a bard template, which is more refined around women than Dar'shandi, and actually prefers the ladies he entertains properly and exquisitly clothed.
I am very guilty of the "hero that cannot die" aspect. I may parody that with a character for the Forgotten Realms RP starting on these forums, if I can get away with a custom prestige class, "Dashing Swordsman", based roughly on the one seen in Order of the Stick, but more fleshed out and believable. (which is a neutral-good version of the paladin/blackguard genre, however, it has a strong favor toward Bards. I dunno why Blackguard is a prestige class, but paladin isn't... I think I'll make the paladin a prestige class for my imaginary campaign. Too bad I have no players for it...)
