Surely dragons wouldn't form a society if it took them more than a few seconds to relieve headaches. They would be meeting new dragons all the time, and I assume the dragons would have an aversion to doing so. It would make more sense to me if dragons have the ability to ignore the pulse.
Also, I'm not sure I like the whole 'mating' thing. The only reason I liked these dragons was that they were more than just primitive beasts. But that example makes it seem like they'll mate with any dragon, whether they know and love them or no. Afterall, surely they wouldn't feel the pulse from a dragon they knew?
All the rest was cool, but that 'detection' bit just didn't sit right with me.
Anyway: Thankies for the information!

That's the point; the Detection doesn't really seem to fit well into the newest Dragonic social norms. However, in the history, it will make sense. Call it an outdated survival instinct. I suppose I could alter that mating bit, but we will see.

When you were talking about the transformation of dragons into other shapes and beings (such as Humans) you said that gender was difficult because of the alteration of internal organs. This leads me to believe that it's more than a purely physical transformation, which leads me to wonder...
Can dragons engage in sexual relations with Humans? And if so, can the female in that relationship bear offspring from the union? I personally think it would be quite interesting to have a Human character who has a dragon father, as well as the possibilities it opens up.

Well, considering that it was possible in the original Dragons RP, I would assume that it would be possible here as well. Flame Dancer was quite thoroughly in love with Shelby, and had all the parts required TO have relations with her, so I would assume had the situation ever arose, he could indeed have done so. And Horus mentioned half-dragons at some point, I believe, so there may be offspring possible as well. EDIT: And to this day, whenever Maric's little homely wife in the final Dragon Chapter mentioned him being bigger, I STILL wish I could have had Flame Dancer pop up and go "But mine's adjustable!". I wish it, I wish it so strongly...

Such a rather large hindrance to comfort- it's an actual aversion- makes it seem unlikely that dragons would ever become an actual society. @darknova: I would assume so.

I'm trying to work out how one could get around that, but there is the factor that exposure to a dragon for a span of time will decrease this headache effect. So really it would take some willpower on the part of the dragons to come together, for reasons such as courtship. And I have thought it through, I am deleting that mating bit. You are right, it does make Dragons seem more primitive and animal.

But if they only came together for courtship, then no society would develop, would it? I'm just really not seeing that work, to be honest with you, FC. The headaches thing is just too unrealistic to me. In terms of evolution, it would make no sense for them to have a such a pointlessly annoying trait. Such things as sight, smell, and perhaps even their telepathy could easily allow them to recognise when aonther is near. In fact, I would find it a good deal more acceptable if, rather than having headaches at the nearness of another, they merely recognise that another is within telepathic range... sorta like logging in to a chatroom, but not saying anything yet. Anyway: more please! I crave more dragon's info! I'll settle for the RP to be made, though.

Hmm... I will take your words into consideration.
As for your words, Darknova, I am not sure what to say to that. There is no mention of Dragon mating in TES lore, hell the idea they can change forms to look human is derived from a small text excerpt I can't even FIND anymore. So I can't give a concrete answer, but the transformation would in fact be physical, as they are changing their physical anatomy through magical processes. For now, I'm going to assume they are in the same boat as Argonians, and for simplicity's sake call them infertile with other races, but the possibility is not ruled out (because Argonian fertility is also debatable).
I don't recall Horus mentioning half-dragons, myself, but he came close to one by being a Blood Brother.

I thought dragon's COULD mate with dragons (I also think argonians can... but it's not as well founded, and is more of a 'should' in my mind...)
Really, though: if dragons make a physical change into a human, then, upon shifting forms, they become human. If they can shape-shift their anatomy, then they can shapeshift their anatomy, get it? All I'm saying is, if they can take on human form, they can mate with whoever is compatible with the form they took. Just makes sense.
In dragon form, though, I would imagine it was impossible.
*shrugs* But that's something I'm not going to make a big fuss about this one. It's just my opinion on TES dragons.

However, I would reason through a similar logic, that they wouldn't be truly half-dragon according to typical fantasy standards. They COULD, however, derive a powerful affinity for magic from their Dragonic blood. Possibly greater intellect as well, but physical signs would be non-existent. They'd look like and be a human/mer/beastman. But let's make it easier on me, no half-dragons for characters.

I would still allow them to mate with humans though, just that their offspring wouldn't be bizzarre and worthy of their own lore.

FC4, if you need any additional ideas, Wizards of the Coast has published a DnD supplement called the Draconomicon. Great reservoir of draconic whatnot and such.
If you decide to go any farther with this, I'll join in a heartbeat.
...as soon as I get a new PC, which will happen as soon as Best Buy re-stocks...*mutter*

I am going to take it as a cue to start working on this again, the fact this was spared from the cleansing of the roleplay section.
However, planning is currently on a standstill. It's not forgotten folks, I just don't have the time for it right now.
