And to my hometown! I learned today that King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sophia of Spain are coming to speak in the little old Spanish colony that is Pensacola. The schools are giving us permission to leave early to go see them. They'll be speaking in our equivalent of a 'town square' (a garden with a statue and a bunch of cannons) on Thursday at around noon (Central American time zone). Whoo! Excitement!

Neat, congratulations. Not everyday do you get to see world rulers. Take pictures for the rest of us common folk.

Spain still has a monarchy? I hadn't known. Sounds awesome!

Well, it was interesting. They had the speech in front of an old museum in town, and they had huge Spanish flags draped over the front of the building. The king made a speech about the city, and how today is apparently the 450th anniversary of the settlement, and how Spain has always been a good ally to Florida. Then the governor (or mayor, I couldn't tell) appointed February 19th as "King Juan Carlos and Queen Sophia Day". It was neat...and for some reason a group of people were waving a large Greek flag in the crowd.

Oh man, that was my Greek flag? I thought it was supposed to be Portuguese!

Oh man, that was my Greek flag? I thought it was supposed to be Portuguese! Heh...we were making jokes about that...and about the British armada showing up...and Spain offering Florida to rejoin them...and of King Juan Carlos high-fiving the front row....

As we all know, only awesome countries have monarchy Our king is a lousy speaker, but his father was even worse. Wouldn't really want to listen to one of his speeches. But anyway, cool, was probably better than school.

If you ask me, the british monarchy is only good for one thing, tourism. Other than that it's completely pointless.
