Good move, Web. *applauds* For Raylen, I think it was, who wanted an art corner? The reason we had not created one originally was because there weren't enough artists around to support such an idea. Still, its nice to have one, (and its nice you got my mods using their powers for something constructive). So I guess this is officially open.

Hey, can't accuse me of lacking initiative. xD I didn't see the problem in tossing out another board for something else that would get creative juices flowing, and it's a good way to head off any future people coming in and going 'I need a place to show off my art!' as well. Though it started with only Raylen, I do hope to see others come up and show off some fantastic artistry... I do know FC4 dabbles at drawing, maybe he'll appear here. *Shrugs* In any case, yes. Artist Corner is now open. I made a good and major change to the boards, I feel important.

I so can't draw. But that's fine. I've been working on my atrocious story-writing skills. ;D But seriously, this Artist's Corner was a smooth move.

I'm slowly getting better at drawing... I moved from stick figures to (Somewhat) detailed objects in a matter of months

I've always been a sub-standard draw-er, although I used to be better than I am now. I've very much fallen out of practice. I used to be pretty into photomanipulation, too. I love sculpting, still, though. For me, the best kind of art is always written. If I can't make the picture with words, than I had damned well better learn to.

A picture is worth a thousand words, in any language, at any degree of vocabulary skill.

A picture, compared to a story, is boring in ten different colours. Very good comeback. And I will agree, Webster, that yes some art is terribly boring. In fact, most is. You just have to have an eye for it, a certain way of looking at a piece of art, to uncover more of its meaning. I can't even divine most of the meaning from a piece, so I'm hardly experienced with art. But I gleam more from it than the average person, which makes it more interesting. Frankly, I prefer a story AND accompanying art. ^^ Best of both worlds. ..... I'm a very visual person.

I kid, I kid... Anyway, I personally find a good story far more stimulating than a picture. A story requires you to actively engage with it, that your mind work in concert with the words, while a picture or painting (even the best ones) tend to be a more passive experience, I find. Of course, I think that actually seeing the real thing (like looking at a ridge of pine covered mountains in the rain) trumps both paintings and stories, hands down. But that's something different entirely.

Agreed there.
And I do enjoy art- I've been to various different art galleries. But a picture can't tell a story. It can have meaning, sure. But its only speculation, and basically, its static. In a story, there can be an entire world. And you aren't held down by someone else's idea of what's ugly and what's beautiful. The words incite in your mind the image that best suits.
But yeah, totally agree that there's nothing like seeing the real thing. That's why I'm a Dragon Hunter- gotta see me one in the flesh!

That's why I'm a Dragon Hunter- gotta see me one in the flesh! I'm trying so hard not to crush your imagination right now. Also, everyone seems to have forgotten about good old sculpture! But some sculptures I really like and some I really hate so I can't just say that all sculpture is great. On the whole picture vs. story subject, I haven't really decided. I am probably more on the story side, but not necessarily. With a picture you can interpret it however you want and create your own story. It can be different for every person, any one person can see what they want to see in a picture, whereas a story is the same for everyone (but it could be an amazing story so...) I'll stop babbling now.

the problem with the picture route though... is it takes more than one picture to properly tell a story. Now to convey an idea... only need one.

ooo ooo me is a good artist, better than i be at stuff i wrote when i sometime feel like it *pauses and re-reads* hmmm... yes well. lol anyways both me and my Girlfriend do alot of art, mainly character design and beasts but i must admit, my girlfriend is much more talented than i, being able to do whole scenes down to the finest details, where as i suck at drawing even a tree.... anyway u may find me putting some of our scribbles up in the near future and some opinions would be nice! on the Story vs Picture thingy.... Story would win hands down on the whole telling a tale thing... but sometimes pictures are 'needed' in my case of wanting to reader to see a character the EXACT way I see him or her, because i feel my knack at describing people lacks alot...
