I saw "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" at the cinema yesterday (they should rename it "The Tedious Case of Benjamin Button") and before the film started there was a trailer for Watchmen the movie.
I've seen the graphic novel in shops many times but I've never bought it. I know it's meant to be one of the greatest graphic novels of all time but I don't really know what it's about. Though the trailer did say it's a DC comic, I just thought it was written by some independent guy.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone here has read it and whether they would recommend it to me. Also, could you give me a description of how it starts, but NOT how it ends (I don't want you to spoil it for me)!
Thanks

So, has anyone actually read it?

I haven't read it myself, but I've got a friend who loved it. It starts out with a scene of a dead guy on the side of a road in a city with blood all around him and a little smiley face key chain in the pool of blood, while some fellow monologues about how wretched the people of the city (and humanity in general) have become, and how when the end comes, they'll be begging for his help, and he'll deny it.
Apparently the whole premise of the story is this one hero trying to decide whether humanity is worth saving, or something along those lines.

Sounds...interesting. I saw it in a shop the other day but it was quite expensive so I don't think I'll be getting it for a while.

DO NOT WATCH THE MOVIE. DO NOT WATCH THE WATCHMEN. All that three hour movie is good for is 7 minutes of softcore porn.

Simmo, what the hell do you watch if you've never seen someone have sex in a movie? You only watch teletubbies?

Well, the silk thingy is not exactly a piece of fabric, it's more like a woman with a codename something like silk-thingy
